Oregon Caves Chateau – New Effort to Bring Back to Life

SOREDI recently visited the Oregon Caves National Monument and had the opportunity to see the Chateau up close and personal. What an incredible structure, with all the wood detail and finishing. The history of this building and surrounding area speaks to how important the effort is to bring the treasured Chateau back.

Closed since 2018, OregonLive recently wrote an article about the new effort to raise the necessary funds to bring the Chateau back to life. What started as an $8.6 million project to update wiring and plumbing, soon became a larger endeavor, exposing much needed structural updates to the foundation. It all came to a halt in 2020.

Tourism is a big part of Southern Oregon and a significant strategy in the One Rogue Valley Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy developed by SOREDI in partnership with local professionals to guide economic efforts in Southern Oregon. Initiative 4 is Tourism (page 13), supporting the organizations and places that strengthen the tourism and experiential environment in Southern Oregon.
