KDRV recently reported that Jackson County Commissioners will be voting to approve grant funding from the Critical Oregon Airport Relief program on Wednesday, Sept. 4. If approved, the money will go towards projects at the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport.
These funds were approved by the commissioners and according to KDRV, “The Critical Oregon Airport Relief program helps airports match requirements for federal grants, support emergency preparedness and infrastructure projects and provide money for aviation-related economic development. The Medford airport would get the grant money under the first category.”
More than $127,000 of these funds will now help the county meet a requirement to get more than $3.8 million in federal airport infrastructure grants for projects. The county needs to provide over $250,000 dollars to get the federal grant.
KDRV also noted that the $127,000 will help expand taxi lane access and build a stormwater facility. In Jackson County documents it says, “construction of taxiway and taxi lane access to the Northwest Development will function as critical airfield components.”
The more than $3.8 million dollar federal grant will help the airport construct a bigger apron, construct a new taxi lane and expand the taxiway. In county documents it says these projects will “support future hangar development and continued revenue for the operation of the airport.”
Congratulations to SOREDI member, Rogue Valley International – Medford Airport, for this great accomplishment. Having a strong distribution infrastructure make Southern Oregon attractive to business and manufacturers. These airport improvements will keep contribute to keeping that infrastructure strong.
