Oregon Unemployment Rates Released – Highest Since Post-Pandemic

Garrett Andrews of Oregon Business reported on August 20, 2025, that Oregon has hit the highest unemployment rate since post-pandemic, 5%. This 1.2% decline comprises 24,600 jobs over the past year.

Manufacturing was the hardest hit with the loss of 9,400 jobs year-to-date, while the financial sector lost 2,700 jobs, business services lost 1,400, private health care and social assistance is down 1,100 jobs in July. Intel and Wells Fargo also cut a significant number of jobs this year.

On the other hand, jobs have been added to the workforce in construction 2,900 jobs in July, health care and social assistance 10,000 jobs year-to-date, and leisure and hospitality 2,000 jobs.

With several changes made in the leadership level at Oregon Employment Department, the Governor has requested an agency wide review to improve efficiency and service to customers in an effort to mitigate long wait times.
