Café Mestiza Takes it All the Way! ¡Felicidades, Café Mestiza!

In June, Pitch Latino came to Southern Oregon to hold an event for Latino entrepreneurs to pitch to investors and community members their ideas and businesses for a grant to invest in their efforts. Southern Oregon Innovation Hub (SOIH) and SOREDI hosted the event. Café Mestiza won the pitch for a total grant of $6,000 and a spot in the Pitch Latino Portland just held in October. Pitch Latino is part of the Latino Founders organization whose mission is to empower entrepreneurs of the Latino community.

KDRV recently reported on their success…

Café Mestiza won Pitch Latino Portland, too!

Café Mestiza is owned by two Latinas, Jimena Valencia and Zuri Molina, and is located at 915 W. McAndrews in Medford. It’s been nearly two years since opening its doors sharing “Latino culture through its menu and community outreach.”

Grant winnings from the Portland event resulted in $10,000. With their total earnings of $16,000 they had planned to focus on their long-time goal of roasting their own beans. With the pause on SNAP, they took $2,000 of their earnings and put back into the community by giving away food, other essentials, and raising an additional $2,500 through a donation link created with Medford community members. The funds will be used to help families in need this Thanksgiving.

Cafeína y Cultura – Jimena and Zuri set out to bring the flavors of their Hispanic culture to the community and to offer a place that is barrier-free in culture and bienvenidos. They have resoundingly accomplished what they set out to do, and more.

Unique and welcome flavor treats Tres Leches or La Vaquita coffee drinks don’t disappoint. Pair with a sweet or savory item by featured La Casa de Mamá.

Congratulations to Southern Oregon’s very own award-winning Latina entrepreneur enterprise, Café Mestiza!

¡Felicidades, Café Mestiza!
