ADU Workshop – Creating Accessible & Inclusive Housing

Friday, November 21st – Creating Accessible & Inclusive Housing presented by the Jackson County Long-Term Recovery Group (JCC LTRG). This workshop is designed to improve our knowledge and understanding of what accessible and inclusive housing is and understand the role we all play in creating it. It is FREE to attend though registration is required.

In this workshop, we’ll explore accessible and inclusive design from multiple angles, including principles of universal design and systemic policies and standards such as the ADA and Fair Housing Act. We’ll learn about strategies for weaving accessibility into housing design, planning, and building with attention to both physical and social dimensions. We’ll also look at equitable housing planning, including hearing from partners who’ve engaged underrepresented community members from the start, centering engagement that led to improved outcomes.

Who should attend?

  • Community Members—Individuals with lived experience of housing inaccessibility or exclusion, including people with disabilities, older adults, low-income renters or homeowners, and BIPOC residents.
  • Community-Based Organizations and Advocates—Staff, volunteers, and advocates working in housing, health, disability rights, immigrant and refugee support, or equity-focused services.
  • Service Providers and Case Workers—Individuals supporting clients in accessing housing, benefits, or home modifications, including health workers, care coordinators, and peer supports.
  • Design, Development, and Construction Professionals—Architects, planners, developers, builders, and retrofit specialists interested in creating accessible, inclusive, and community-informed housing.
  • Public Sector Leaders and Stakeholders—Staff from local government, housing authorities, planning departments, and public agencies involved in funding, permitting, or policy development.
