Southern Oregonians are proud of their independent thinking and resourcefulness. For Ausland Group, that identity is an important part of the “secret sauce” that drives their rapidly growing commercial design and construction company.
Ausland Group has made a long-term commitment to Southern Oregon investing in their new headquarters in Grants Pass. The state-of-the-art facility was designed and built by Ausland’s staff with a Northwest industrial style of architecture as a showcase of their team’s talents.
Its proximity to the Oregon Coast, the Rogue River and the Willamette Valley provide countless outdoor activities and opportunities. The Southern Oregon culture and arts scene is also appealing with access to fantastic breweries, vineyards and live performance venues like Britt Festival.
Being located in Southern Oregon is a huge benefit to Ausland Group. Kelsy Ausland, Co-founder, compares her after-work regimen to those of colleagues in the Silicon Valley… “instead of being stuck in rush-hour traffic, I have a ten-minute commute and can have a picnic dinner packed and ready to enjoy on the banks of the scenic Rogue River.”
The richness of the outdoors and local recreational activities, including hunting, fishing, and camping, are perfect for bonding with others and continuing to grow the sense of community that makes Ausland a wonderful place to work. “Our Southern Oregon locale offers our people outstanding quality of life while maintaining centralized service to our clients throughout the greater Pacific Northwest,” said Kelsy.
Ausland Group is continually growing as they expand throughout the Pacific Northwest. With a base of 75 employees including architects, engineers, project managers, carpenters, laborers, and other professionals, they regularly recruit graduates from Southern Oregon University, Oregon State University and the University of Oregon.
Many Ausland employees get on-the-job training to increase their skills and advance in the company. For example, Ausland provides career development programs for students graduating from high school interested in becoming carpenters, foremen and superintendents. They also provide high school and college students internships in engineering and architecture. “We are tightly woven into the fabric of our community and have had the opportunity to lead a number projects that helped set the culture and future of our region,” said Aaron Ausland.
Aaron and Kelsy Ausland met at Oregon State University where they studied business and engineering. Shortly after starting their careers, it became clear to them that the design and construction industry was broken. Traditional approaches to development pitted participants against one another – to the detriment of client-focused alignment. To Aaron and Kelsey, the stakes couldn’t have been higher. They felt it was a fight for the soul of their profession and craft. With that, they saw an opportunity for a new business model. And with a three-generation family legacy in the industry, Aaron and Kelsy Ausland founded Ausland Group in 2002.
With the motto, “World class development – locally scaled,” Ausland Group’s mission isn’t just designing and building things; it’s about understanding the deeper purpose behind the investment and using their resources as a team to leverage outstanding outcomes. Ausland has left an indelible mark across the region with projects like AllCare Health’s regional campus, the Veterans Administration Ambulatory Care Clinic, and the Britt Festival’s Performance Garden venue.
By incorporating all key development disciplines within one company, Ausland Group is strategically built to deliver exceptional team alignment towards client outcomes. Architecture, civil and structural engineering, land use planning, and construction services – all work in harmony to allow them to take a project from start to finish.
