Oregon Humanities is one of the fifty-four state and jurisdictional humanities councils receiving a portion of $51.6 million in emergency relief funding to support local cultural groups and public and educational humanities programming adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. This funding is a part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP), distributed by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Oregon Humanities will offer at least $675,000 in grants for 1) general operating support for humanities-focused organizations and 2) humanities program support to institutions that have been financially impacted by COVID-19 in the following categories:
- Oregon nonprofit organizations (as reported to the IRS and with an existing EIN) with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
- Accredited public and 501(c)(3) institutions of higher education
- State and local government agencies
- Federally recognized Native American tribal governments
Applicants must have a 2021 operating budget under $1,500,000 unless the applicant is a federally recognized Native American tribal government. Applications are due August 27 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
Two grant types are available: SHARP General Operating Support Grants and SHARP Project Support Grants.
Applicants are limited to making a single application for funding by choosing either a SHARP General Operating Support Grant or a SHARP Project Support Grant.

Priority is given to BIPOC and/or rural applicants.
How much is available?
At least $675,000 in total grants are available. Each organization may apply for up to $20,000.
