Community Gems : Pear Blossom Festival 2023

Being a new transplant to the Rogue Valley I’m learning about so many of the fun things that go on down here. The Pear Blossom Festival is definitely one of those fun happenings. I’ve heard references to it off and on since October when I moved here. And now that it’s getting close to April, the festival is in full promotion and preparation mode, and what a comeback year it’s going to be!

Being a person who loves to read about an event’s history, the Pear Blossom Festival does not disappoint. Did you know that 3 of the parade marshals over the years include Governor Holmes, John F. Kennedy, and Frank Shorter? That’s an impressive lineup.

The festival started with a children’s parade, which continues to this day, to celebrate the spring blossom season. It has grown from 10 floats in 1954 to over 150 entrants this year with over 5,000 participants. And it has grown into a celebration to include activities for all—

The RCH Baby Contest, Junior Royalty Pageant, Senior Royalty Scholarship, the Smudge Pot Stroll, Pedals ‘n Pears, a Street Fair, the Golf Tournament, Pear-A-Fare, the Cornhole Tournament, and  the Pear Blossom Run. Whew! Definitely something for everyone. I know I will be checking it out!

Yes, it does happen the same weekend as Easter but that only happens every so often so plan ahead and you’ll be all set for a very fun-filled weekend. Check it out!
