Oregon by the Numbers 2023

Oregon by the Numbers contains a suite of community measures across a range of topics and issues, relying extensively on secondary data from a variety of sources stored on the Communities Reporter Tool database from the RCE. Comprised of county profiles for all 36 counties as well as corresponding summaries for each measure, with rankings whenever possible, the Oregon by the Numbers report targets a broad audience. This year, 2023, is the online version only. 2024 will include both printed and online versions.

County profiles (Jackson and Josephine sections presented below) are designed to display data at-a-glance enabling all readers to learn something new about the place where they live.

Measure summaries provide more specifics for those interested in the “why” and “how.” Whenever possible, county-level values are compared with Oregon, rural Oregon and urban Oregon.

Take note on pages 6-9 the complexities of defining “rural” and how keeping that definition congruent across all agencies is critical for representing all communities. Reclassifications due to changing definitions of “rural” are becoming more frequent, which can create real data challenges for these areas.

We are grateful to The Ford Family Foundation and Oregon State University for providing the Oregon community with this valuable data to help us make informed decisions and strategies as we work together to make Southern Oregon such a great place to work, live and do business!
