KOBI5 reports that the Rogue Community College Foundation awarded $650,000 to Rogue Community College to help support programs in light of the potential financial shortfall.
“The move comes after the Oregon Legislative Fiscal Office warned of possible reductions in the 2025–2027 biennium, citing a projected shortfall in the state budget that could translate to a $1.25 million reduction each year for RCC. Officials say the Foundation’s investment will help the college avoid staff reductions this year while continuing to provide high-quality, accessible education for its students.”
The Rogue Community College Blog also reported the grant award by the RCC Foundation. “During this unprecedented time, the foundation board felt strongly that we must step forward,” said Andy Linerud, chair of the foundation board. “Our mission is to support students and strengthen RCC’s programs. This investment ensures the college can continue providing exceptional education without compromising the people who make that possible.”
It is important to note that in spite of these challenges, RCC continues to receive statewide and national recognition. As reported in an earlier newsletter, the Carnegie Foundation recently named RCC as an Opportunity College. This is a huge recognition for RCC’s success in helping students transition into strong-wage careers. As reported in their blog, “On average, RCC graduates earn more than 25% higher wages than the general population in our region.”
SOREDI applauds RCC’s ingenuity and resourcefulness to continue providing a strong workforce for our region.
