Rusted Gate Farm – A Ribbon Cutting and New Venture

The Rusted Gate Farm’s new facility (constructed by SOREDI member Adroit Construction) is open and ready for you to stop and visit!  The result is shown in the photos below of their beautiful new building, complete with solar panels.

Their ribbon cutting celebration was held on October 15, to which Jaymes Tadlock of SOREDI attended.

As noted in a former December post of this newsletter, the Rusted Gate Farm began in 2014 with the purchase of a single property, the farm was later founded as a non-profit in 2019 by Christy Walton and her sister, Rachel Hall, a longtime resident of Central Point. Rachel noticed the small farms disappearing from the local landscape and wanted to find a way for farmers to sell and retire without losing the legacy they had built over the years. Pooling their resources, she and Christy became resources for farmers to do just that by creating Rusted Gate Farm.

Rusted Gate Farm’s vision – “Through sharing outcomes of experimentation with traditional, alternative, and innovative farm practices, Rusted Gate Farm intends to identify a mix of income producing activities that will increase average farm income, promote environmental health, and insure long term financial security for small farms.

They sell no-spray produce, antibiotic & hormone-free grass-finished and grain-finished beef.

In line with their vision, they are starting a new venture with Montgomery Meats as a “supporter and landlord for their new USDA Mobile Meat Processing” there in Central Point. Currently, there aren’t any USDA inspected cattle harvesting establishments in Southern Oregon, which contributes to a weaker food system in our area. Read more below about their innovative solution to bring sustainability to Southern Oregon’s meat producers.
