SOREDI News: Manufacturing Industry Tour Complete!

SOREDI Members and local educators joined with SOREDI staff on the October 25 SOREDI Industry Tour in Medford. A surprise element was added to the end for first the first time ever, a reverse tour to Phoenix high school to visit their CTE program. After arriving at SOREDI for a check-in and coffee, off the tour went!

First stop: Erickson Air-Crane, Inc. Troy & Terry led us on a fascinating tour. Special thanks to new Erickson Air-Crane CEO, Barry Kohler, for addressing the group as well.

Second stop: Boise Cascade. Though we weren’t able to documents with photos, we can say that the entire group appreciated the information and description of the manufacturing that goes on there.

After a provided lunch at Wild River Pizza, the group headed to the third stop, Medford Fabrication where they not only had a tour of the facility but were able to see work in action. Bill Thorndike did a hands-on presentation of the fine detail the equipment can make. We even came home with our SOREDI logo!

The fun surprise at the end came with the final stop at the new Phoenix High School. Their CTE program features a culinary program, automotive and manufacturing. Each of the teachers heading up these programs are extremely knowledgeable and are committed to the success of the students.

Thank you for the generous sponsorship of Southern Oregon Educational Services District and Rogue Workforce Partnership! It was great having you on the tour!

Stay tuned for the next tour coming in December!
