Sunflowers = Resilience in Phoenix

photo by Holly Dillemuth

Holly Dillemuth of Ashland.news reported on a new Sunflower installation in Phoenix commemorating the 5th anniversary since the Almeda Fire, the brainchild of The Cheese Cave owner, Mélodie Picard. Along with the hundreds of sunflowers passed out on the fifth-year anniversary, a symbol of the community’s hope since the Almeda Fire, this metal sunflower sculpture has become an enduring sign of resilience. And, of course, has become a great selfie stage. The design was crafted by Phoenix Metal Craft LLC.

As reported by Dillemuth, at the base of each metal sunflower is a metal-crafted coffee cup, flower, butterfly, flame, and cheese slice to acknowledge the five neighboring businesses that sponsored the project. These businesses are located along Main Street and are noted below. Read full article here

The resilience of Phoenix and Talent post-Almeda has been an inspiration to many as they continually move forward step by step. SOREDI counts it a privilege to partner with their efforts as they become an example to other communities who have experienced such overwhelming devastation. Today, five years later, the evidence is everywhere as you drive down Hwy 99. New housing developments, rebuilt businesses, and infrastructure improvements speak loudly to their determination and strength to pull together and make recovery happen. Let the sunflowers shine!
