Wildfire Prevention – Pacific Power

In case you haven’t seen this communication by Pacific Power, it is included below. SOREDI salutes Pacific Power for the proactive steps being taken to help mitigate future wildfire devastation. This is an important step in helping make Southern Oregon a great place to settle into life, supporting a strong economy in this region. These steps are in process as PP continually looks for ways to make this a win for all of us.

At Pacific Power, we’re taking steps to prevent wildfires by expanding our weather monitoring abilities, actively managing vegetation and strengthening our system.

The safety of our customers and communities is our top priority. We may use protective settings and de-energize power lines to prevent wildfires during periods of the greatest wildfire risk anywhere across our service area.

• Enhanced Safety Settings: These settings result in lines being de-energized automatically when debris, wildlife or strong winds contact lines, reducing the chance of a fire ignition. When these settings are in place, there is an increased potential for outages.
• Emergency De-energization: When an active wildfire moves too close to our lines or equipment, we may carry out an emergency de-energization of our power lines.
• Public Safety Power Shutoff: The decision to implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff is based on extreme weather and area conditions, including high winds, low humidity and critically dry fuels such as vegetation.

En Pacific Power, estamos tomando medidas para prevenir los incendios forestales ampliando nuestras capacidades de monitoreo del clima, gestionando activamente la vegetación y fortaleciendo nuestro sistema.

• Corte Eléctrico de Seguridad Pública: La decisión de implementar un Corte Eléctrico de Seguridad Pública se basa en condiciones climáticas y de área extremas, incluyendo vientos fuertes, baja humedad y combustibles críticamente secos como la vegetación.
