American Tire Distributors (ATD) has purchased property and will begin construction of a 100,000 s/f concrete tilt-up warehouse and distribution center off Industry Drive in Medford beginning in January. ATD will create more than 15 new jobs for Southern Oregonians.
As the nation’s largest tire distributor, the Medford facility will be the company’s second project in Oregon and the nation’s 114th facility in 45 states.
ATD was established in 1935, is based near Charlotte, North Carolina, and serves nearly 75,000 customers in the US and Canada. The company helps tire and wheel retail dealers compete with larger retailers by offering a large, coast-to-coast selection of tires, wheels and related product, and value added services.
SOREDI, along with the City of Medford and Business Oregon, has been working with ATD, along with their development partners, to find suitable industrial lands, identify appropriate incentives and resources, and facilitate the project, as needed, since July of 2014. Southern Oregon was a key location to filling gaps in their distribution network.
“We are ready to build in Medford and look forward to being in service by late spring,” comments Daniel Lacouture, ATD Director of Real Estate & Development. “We look forward to servicing automotive service and tire retailers across Southern Oregon from this new ATD facility.”
The company will recruit employees with skills in administration, warehousing, logistics, and delivery as the facility construction nears completion. ATD will take advantage of Medford Urban Enterprise Zone property tax abatement incentives available to traded-sector companies, and other potential incentives through Business Oregon. Prospective employees may submit resumes through WorkSource Oregon at oed.medfordcr@oregon.gov .
ATD’s development will open up a critical industrial property in the City of Medford – one of the region’s few Oregon Certified Sites established as a development ready site.
“This project has been percolating for several months and we are happy to see it finally come to fruition and create jobs” states Colleen Padilla, Senior Business Development Manager for SOREDI. “The stage is now set for additional prospective projects to seriously consider the region. We have lacked ready to go industrial property for a long time, which has caused us to lose some projects. ATD’s development moves us forward considerably.”
